“It’s my most favorite place in the world,” Elizabeth (Liz) says of her family’s lakeside cabin, where she married Grant. “We just wanted simple, classic and timeless, and for the venue to be the star,” she says. “It was special to be married on the patio where my grandparents used to drink their coffee and watch the lake,” says Liz." The couple’s stationery set the stage for the casual celebration. “For our save-the-dates, we sent out two different versions—one whimsical and one slightly more formal, but both lake themed,” Liz says. At cocktail hour, guests snacked on Grant’s favorite popcorn, served up from a machine while sipping on beer brewed and tapped by Liz's brother.Letting the setting dictate many of the day’s laid-back details, the couple gave guests packets of wildflower seeds and treated them to slices of homemade pie that Liz and her family made with fruit from Grant’s home state of Michigan. A traditional white cake with white-chocolate buttercream rounded out the meal of pan-fried walleye, Mexican grilled corn salad and wild rice pilaf.
