These Grooms Celebrated Their Palm Springs, California, Wedding with a Modern Luxury Theme
David Canfield (26 and an entertainment journalist) and Andrew Quintana (26 and a writer) brought a luxe, modern flair to their wedding in Palm Springs that blended seamlessly with the region's retro vibe to create a memorable desert getaway to celebrate their union. "It was important to us to create a weekend that felt unique, communal, and right for us. The Villa Royale is a boutique, ‘50s-style hotel with three pools that we were able to totally block out for three nights, which created amazing intimacy between us and wedding guests in advance of, and the morning after, our Wedding Day. Palm Springs’ great gay history also made it feel appropriate!" recalls David of selecting their Palm Springs, California venue, Villa Royale. When it came time to curate their special day at Villa Royale, the couple settled on a theme that encompassed, "Old Hollywood, but not tacky!" David and Andrew pulled off their vision thanks to, "lots of blacks and golds to fit the vibe of the hotel, with an emphasis on greenery." Even the wedding's "California Poolside Chic" dress code helped further enhance the modern luxury feel of the Palm Springs wedding.
The wedding began with the couple's ceremony, set against a mountain backdrop. "White chairs, with the altar overrun with gorgeous green houseplants—a nod to Andrew’s work and love for them, and a general embrace of Palm Springs’ sunny vibe," brought the ceremony space to life. For the processional, the couple, "each in came from one side simultaneously. We were both escorted by our mothers, as a tribute to the role they’ve played in our lives." David recalls the ceremony as one of his favorite moments from the day: "There was so much love in that space, and it looked perfect and felt so still and quiet. And specifically, the vows—virtually the whole crowd was in tears, and Andrew was absolutely sobbing at my vows, which made me feel great."
After a poolside cocktail hour, guests were escorted to the outdoor reception where they enjoyed a Spanish-inspired dinner. As for the evening's entertainment, they, "had an amazing live band for the dinner portion—The Martini Kings, complete with a Frank Sinatra impersonator that somehow felt authentic and not cruise-ship-y at all." To round out the celebration, guests enjoyed late-night cigars as the party roared on.
