The Turkish Evil Eye Brought Luck to This Colorful Wedding at Summerour Studio in Atlanta, Georgia
Like any other couple, Caddie Durrett (28 and a contract and translation manager) and Kerem Erog ̆lu (29 and a project manager) wanted their wedding day to go off without a hitch. The couple decided to take matters into their own hands and planned an Atlanta affair all the way from Finland. For good measure, Caddie and Kerem enlisted the help of the Turkish evil eye, a symbol of protection and prosperity from Kerem’s native Turkey. “We incorporated the evil eye symbol and its blue colors into our stationery,” Caddie says. The pair also paid homage to Turkey with lanterns and linens brought from The Grand Bazaar in Istanbul.
Colorful tulips, wildflowers and greenery filled blue and white Turkish ceramic vases. Caddie and Kerem’s dog, Dobby, served as the ring bearer and rocked a custom collar decorated with greenery and wildflowers. The couple cut into a tile-pattern buttercream cake layered with chocolate, red velvet and vanilla flavors. Gold Turkish lamps glowed atop colorful arrangements of wildflowers and embroidered lace linens.
Caddie and Kerem cut a rug to a mix of tunes, from Turkish classics to James Brown, Tina Turner and John Legend. At one point, “our Turkish guests started singing along to Turkish love songs,” Caddie says. Guests ate a mix of international appetizers, including marinated lamb from a traditional Turkish food station. In keeping with the legendary evil eye motif, Kerem and his guys wore the lucky symbol on their socks, which Kerem’s aunt found in Turkey.
