In honor of the bride’s mother’s background, a traditional Japanese sake toasting ceremony (called san-san-kudo) was performed. “The sake itself was special wedding sake that actually had flecks of real gold in the liquor,” says Kimberly. In the meantime, guests were handed red lacquered cups embossed with a gold Japanese wedding symbol for a congratulatory sake toast. “Everybody practiced saying ‘omedetoo gozaimasu’ (congratulations), and then toasted us,” says Kimberly.
