The Traditions

The tea ceremony took place between the ceremony and reception at Teresa and Restie’s house. One of Teresa’s bridesmaids acted as the tea lady as the couple served both their parents. The tea was brewed with lotus seeds and dates to symbolize the fertility and the sweetness between the bride and her husband’s family. Teresa and Restie served Restie’s parents first. After they drank the tea, they passed red envelopes to the tea lady and the couple. “My dad wished us a prosperous family, and my mom could not hold back her tears and said she loved us very much,” says Teresa.
