The Traditions
During a Quaker ceremony, “There is no set ritual and no sermon,” Sarah explains. White chairs were arranged in a field at the bottom of a hill, and Sarah’s father briefly explained the Quaker wedding process. “Those present settle into a period of silent worship and meditation, with brief messages being offered by anyone attending who feels moved to do so,” Sarah says. When they felt ready, Sarah and Daniel rose and exchanged rings and vows without being lead by an officiant. After the ceremony, every guest in attendance was asked to sign a Quaker Marriage Certificate.
