Caffe Verbena offered just the sort of atmosphere the couple wanted for their wedding: “urban, sophisticated, and modern,” Chelsea says. “The marble floors, mahogany wood, and floor-to-ceiling windows that faced the Zen garden, with a rock waterfall and contemporary sculptures, created the perfect backdrop,” she says. The couple added a personal touch by naming each table after neighborhoods in Oakland (where Chelsea is from) and Chicago (where Chris is from). They spruced up the site with chartreuse- and white-colored lanterns hung from tall bamboo poles.
