The Prairie Wedding in Round Top Texas
Shelby Prior (21 and a receptionist at a pediatric dental office) met Shaun Hasty (26 and in sales) when he came to her family restaurant as a foods sales representative. The couple often played a game where Shelby would try to guess which hand Shaun was holding something in, so after two years of dating, Shelby thought nothing of Shaun’s offer to “pick a hand” while they rested under a pecan tree on Shaun’s family property. “I thought nothing of it and picked a hand. Shan opened the hand I picked and there was my beautiful princess cut engagement ring,” says Shelby. Shelby always wanted a country outdoor wedding with a barn, so when the groom’s mother discovered The Prairie by Rachel Ashwell in Round Top, Texas, the couple knew that is where they wanted to get married. Shelby wore a strapless lace wedding dress with a full tulle skirt and train. The gentlemen wore black tuxedos and the bridesmaids wore strapless lace biscotti dresses; cowboy boots completed everyone’s traditional Texas style. To continue the rustic theme, the groom’s mother made all the bouquets and boutonnieres out of fabric flowers. The ceremony took place outdoors underneath a tree, and recessed into the barn for a shabby chic reception, which included lots of dancing and a four tier wedding cake—half Ghiradelli chocolate, half vanilla almond. The red velvet groom’s cake was a tribute to his alma mater, Ohio State University. For the wedding favors, Shelby and Shaun’s mother handmade pillowcases with miscellaneous fabrics so that no two were the same.
