The Gown
Erin’s father, a former costume designer for the Boston Ballet, had designed several wedding dresses for friends and family over the years. “Although he hadn’t done so in more than 15 years, he was more than happy to whip out the sewing shears for this one occasion,” Erin says. She and her dad searched everywhere for just the right ivory silk, and he created a mock-up based on measurements she and Marc had taken. When Erin finally saw the finished product, her father told her there were two surprises -- “knowing my dad’s sense of humor, this made me slightly nervous!” she admits. “To my delight, he had given me ‘something blue.’” Her monogram was embroidered in the bodice’s lining, and the wedding date inside the skirt. The bustline and pick-ups in the skirt were adorned with a hand-sewn pattern of Swarovski crystals, bugle beads, and miniature pearls as well.
