The Ceremony
Rachel and Jennifer decided to walk up the aisle at the same time because neither wanted to stand at the front and wait. The brides walked up separate side aisles and, after the ceremony, recessed down the middle aisle together. Just three weeks prior to Rachel and Jennifer's wedding, Massachusetts began accepting the first marriage applications for same-sex couples. The couple applied for a license on the second day and received their license in time for the wedding -- making them one of the first same-sex couples to be legally married in the U.S. We joked about having to pay for blood work, something we hadn't figured into the budget since it was not even legal when we got engaged, says Rachel.
