The Ceremony

Amy and Justin chose to recite traditional wedding vows. “It offered a connection between ourselves and many of the guests in attendance,” Amy says. “We hoped it would remind them of the commitment that they made to one another.” After exchanging vows and rings, in lieu of a unity candle ceremony Amy and Justin chose to wash each other’s feet “as a symbol of the way that we want to serve each other in marriage,” Amy explains. The couple further personalized the ceremony by incorporating contemporary music, including a song, written just for the ceremony, that Amy’s brother performed on acoustic guitar.
