The Ceremony

“Job and I are both from Wisconsin, but my parents now live in Oregon and Job’s live in Texas, so we figured Denver would be a good middle ground,” Lyssa says. The ceremony took place at the church the couple attends in Denver. They incorporated some Indian traditions -- in honor of Job’s background -- into their Catholic ceremony. Job tied a thali (a gold pendant on seven strands of thread taken from the traditional Indian wedding sari) around Lyssa’s neck, representing the lifelong bond of marriage. He then draped the wedding sari over her head and shoulders, a symbol of his accepting the responsibility to cherish and care for his wife. The couple also chose to do things a bit differently than usual, sitting at the altar and facing their guests. “It was nice to be able to relax and look out and see everyone as we were going through such a big event,” the bride says.
