The Ceremony

The ceremony, performed by Evangelist Marilyn Garrett and State Representative Reverend Michael Murphy, included the lighting of a unity candle, a friend, Charles White, singing the Gospel song His Eye Is on the Sparrow, and an African libation ceremony, during which the couple honored their ancestors by calling forth their spirits to celebrate the new marriage. They also read Declarations of Love, which they had written themselves, and jumped a broom that had been made by a friend. The recessional Signed, Sealed, Delivered began with the second verse.
