The Ceremony
Caryn and Eric exchanged vows in an interfaith ceremony inside the Westmount Country Club, with both a priest and a rabbi officiating. Rabbi Jerry Heller and Father Gerald Heinen have been friends for years, says the bride, and both officiants stood under the huppah, which was fashioned of white silk chiffon and adorned with ivy and fresh flowers, and stood in front of floor-to-ceiling windows. The bride and groom stood beneath it, with both sets of parents at their sides. The officiants led the couple through a series of Catholic and Jewish rituals such as the lighting of the unity candle, the drinking from the Kiddush cup, and the smashing of the glass. Everything about the ceremony seemed soft, beautiful, and joyous, says Caryn.
