Thai 'Circle of Luck' Tradition

As a nod to Nina’s Thai roots, the couple incorporated numerous Thai traditions into the ceremony. Classical Thai music played as guests found their way to their seats and before exchanging vows, Nina and Charlie performed a Thai water ceremony, in which guests take turns pouring holy water onto the couple’s hands to give their blessing and well-wishes. “Our mothers also placed the ‘Circle of Luck’ on our heads, which represents that from now on our destinies are bonded, while our individual identities are maintained,” Nina says. “Then three white dots were painted on our foreheads by Charlie’s father to represent the Triple Gem in Buddhism.”
