Sweet Peas and Roses Packed on the Romance at This Detroit Institute of Arts Wedding

For their Leap Day wedding, it was crucial to Marybeth Miles and Ben Weatherhead that they highlight, "the resurgence of Detroit for our big day! Since we wanted to show off the city's comeback to those who travelled near and far to join the celebration, our out of town guests (which included loved ones from California to Boston, Montana to Florida and even a handful that travelled internationally) experienced the Detroit Athletic Club and Marriott Renaissance Center before arriving at our historic wedding venue. Our theme centered around our venue choice, The Detroit Institute of Arts. We wanted to invite our guests to experience all of the beauty of this historical museum while celebrating our love. Each part of the wedding (entrance, ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and dancing) showcased a new room or exhibit!" Marybeth shares. To bring their Detroit-centric wedding to life, the couple settled on a color palette of, "sage, blush, and ivory with hints of mauve and champagne, perfect for a winter day in Detroit!" The day's floral designs fit into the color palette seamlessly. The designs were, "romantic, joyful, and tender and included white roses, mauve tulips, hellebores, butterfly ranunculus, clooney ranunculus, and sweet peas," Marybeth says.

In addition to stunning colors and décor, the couple, "tried to personalize as many aspects of the wedding as possible! Family is so important to both of us, so we included a few special touches! Marybeth’s late grandmother (and namesake) was an integral part of her life, so we tried to incorporate the “Grandma Mary magic” in a lot of ways: Marybeth wore her Grandma’s diamond ring on her right hand for the entire wedding weekend, we included a picture of her as the “something blue” on Marybeth’s bouquet, and as we transitioned our flower wall post ceremony we included a sign that said “lots of love”—the way Grandma Mary signed all of her cards! Ben’s Grandma Weatherhead celebrated with us from Florida, but we wanted to incorporate her presence in Michigan too! She bought us a very special wedding bible as a gift and that was used during the ceremony for reading by Marybeth’s cousin. Ben’s Uncle Chris was our officiant and did a fantastic job at his inaugural wedding ceremony. Our best man surprised us with SPARTY at our cocktail hour, the world’s greatest mascot! We both graduated from Michigan State and are PROUD Spartans, so it was the perfect surprise. Lastly, Ben’s mom surprised his dad on their wedding day with a special message engraved in his ring... “M.O.L.L.F” meaning “may our love last forever.” Marybeth surprised Ben with the same special message!"
