Diana Castillo (36 and an ACD copywriter) and Eric Casthart (37 and a designer and developer) wanted to throw a wedding that was “unmistakably us,” they say. The pair did just that, turning to cinema for inspiration. Their chosen theme, dubbed “wicked garden,” blended the Art Nouveau–inspired set designs seen in the 1977 horror film Suspiria with horticultural moments that nodded to the 1993 film Secret Garden. Their unique color palette of earthy green, burgundy, shades of pink, yellow and blue lent playful personality to their venue—which, fittingly, often doubles as a film and photography space.
An homage to the bride’s Dominican roots, a special performance was set to the song “Baile, Compadre Juan.”
Diana’s talented aunt handled all her wedding dress alterations, adding cap sleeves to the embellished tulle ensemble.
A big reason we chose the Metropolitan as our venue is because it looks just so great on its own,” Eric says. Translucent reception chairs, dusty-rose velvet tablecloths and blue napkins ensured their aesthetic flowed seamlessly throughout the space. Two Japanese figurines adorned the custom Milk Bar cake. “I designed nearly everything, with heavy inspiration from lettering and artwork seen in Suspiria,” Eric says.
