'Star Wars' Took Center Stage at This Lock Haven Park Wedding in Orlando, Florida
Self-described nerds who love cosplay, Addie Hassel and James Morrone embraced their offbeat personalities on their wedding day. “We wanted to have the classiest Star Wars party ever,” Addie says. The creative duo made most of the décor themselves, like a Rebel-inspired ceremony backdrop filled with LEDs and succulents, and asked their officiant to dress as Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Each and every details reinforced the couple's epic science-fiction theme. Black table linens, blue champagne and a metallic splatter created an otherworldly atmosphere at the reception. The couple designed and hand-printed their gold-foil invitations, which they finished with a wax seal. Edible copper luster dust and gray Swiss meringue buttercream coated the red velvet, strawberry and white chocolate dessert. Personalized movie posters hung in a breezeway. Star Wars models, like an AT-AT walker, were fitting centerpieces. The couple used automotive bronze paints and a glazing technique to create the antique look.
As for fashion, James rocked a stylish Boba Fett look with a brushed-velvet jacket, gold cravat and blaster. Addie wore a blinged-out version of Princess Leia’s belt. “I wanted to feel like a Rebel princess marrying her bounty hunter on the planet of Endor,” Addie says. Addie wore a leucadendron, limonium, blue thistle and astrantia crown. The wedding party carried engraved lightsabers and sported custom Chuck Taylors. Storm troopers even mingled at Addie and James’s Orlando Science Center celebration.
“When we were eating dinner, the moon rose, and it was this beautiful full blood moon,” Addie says. “Everyone stopped eating, in awe of the glow.”
