Sarah had just returned to St. Olaf College after a year of studying in Sengal, West Africa, when she first met Mike. Also a student, Mike was in charge of a weekly on-campus event called World Issues Dialogue. He was looking for a guest speaker for the event when a mutual friend recommended Sarah. She agreed to do it and the pair hit it off. As they soon learned they had many mutual friends and shared a passion for adventure and travel. Mike asked Sarah out and they went to Sarah's favorite restaurant -- a hole-in-the-wall Guatemalan spot.
