A Rustic Mountain Wedding at Telluride Sleighs and Wagons in Colorado
The reasoning behind Karissa and Shockey's rural venue was simple: “It’s the most beautiful place on earth,” Karissa says of Telluride Sleighs and Wagons. “Since we were making 130 guests travel from all over to a hard-to-reach destination, we wanted to truly amaze them with the best of Telluride’s views.” Shockey built the rustic altar using fallen tree branches, and family members acted as a chorus, serenading the couple with Bob Dylan’s “Shelter from the Storm” mid-ceremony. “It was magical,” Karissa says. The bride’s aunt attached a removable cape to the bespoke wedding gown for added drama. “It was a last-minute detail,” Karissa says. Custom programs included song lyrics, while invitations had an illustration of Telluride’s Main Street. Gauzy linens, gold candlesticks and fresh herbs at each place setting tied into the day’s rustic-bohemian vibe. Homemade bourbon mules and gin cocktails were served on tap, and slices of peach and chocolate-almond pie took the place of cake. “In the end, we worked with a beautiful mashup of colors and elements we liked,” Karissa says. “Every detail felt very authentic to us.”
