Rustic, Antique Touches Filled This Farm Wedding at the Blue Bell Farm in Missouri

Mizzou pride was the name of the game for Kayla and Mike . The couple began planning while living in Chicago, but chose the Columbia area because it was where they met as journalism students in Hudson Hall. “We actually moved back to Columbia during our engagement,” Kayla says. The pair filled their barn wedding with antique, rustic touches like a raw wood arch, but brightened it up with colorful ranunculus, snappy signage and Instax cameras for snapping selfies.
Kayla carried colorful anemones, peonies and roses. “We included some subtle yellow touches as a tribute to Mizzou,” she says.
“We wanted the meal to be a reflection of us, so we chose our favorite thing: a taco bar,” Kayla says. Guests filled their plates with homemade tortillas, guacamole and elote (grilled Mexican corn). “We still hear about the corn to this day,” Kayla says. Together, the couple planned a day full of equal parts humor and sentimentality, from the reception speeches and toasts to the vows. “The idea of sentimental but hilarious is totally us,” Kayla says. “For Mike, I vowed not to adopt any more cats, which I now regret. He talked about how stressed I get at Target.”
While Kayla took on designing the bar signs, Mike created the table numbers, combining bold, modern fonts with watercolor lavender. “Purple is our favorite color, so it had to be the main hue in our palette,” Kayla says.
“Popping champagne with our wedding party was one of the best moments of the day,” Mike says. “That moment symbolizes our lives together: spontaneous and full of friends and laughter.”
