Five years after Adam Jacoby (31, civil engineer at Hatch Mott MacDonald) met Tara Thomas (27, project manager and designer at Connexient) during their senior year at University of Michigan, he popped the question in quintessential New York City fashion: on one knee in front of Bethesda Fountain in Central Park. With the help of Cheeky Details, Tara and Adam planned an equally romantic wedding at iconic Oheka Castle in Huntington, New York. Wanting the beauty of their castle venue to shine, they relied on an understated mix of soft pastels, green and antique gold with fun pops of red for their whimsical, vintage-inspired day.

The back of Tara's Jenny Packham wedding dress was all open with beautiful crystal beading. "I didn’t want to cover that - but I also wanted to wear my hair long," she says. "I ended up with long side swept curls fastened with a vintage inspired crystal hair clip."
"I fell in love with my dress the first time I saw it. Once I tried it on I knew it was 'the one!'" Tara recalls. She wore a tulle, princess-style Jenny Packham gown with crystal beading around the waist and back. "It was so different from other dresses I tried on, and it fit so perfectly with the feel that I had in mind for the rest of the wedding."

Tara carried a hand-tied bouquet of fluffy white peonies, David Austin garden roses, blush garden roses, honeysuckle and hanging amaranthus.
Oheka Castle Wedding Venue
"I knew I wanted a romantic, vintage-inspired feel and Oheka Castle was the perfect backdrop. The formal French gardens where we had the ceremony are absolutely stunning, and the elegance and opulence of the castle is the perfect environment for a celebration," says Tara. "We looked at several other places but once we saw Oheka, nothing compared."

To enhance the beauty of the French Gardens at Oheka Castle—and not overpower it—Tara and Adam relied on organic shades for their ceremony decor. One of the first things guests saw when they arrived at the outdoor ceremony were the garlands of fresh greenery draped across the last aisle of chairs.
Cheeky Details created a custom wedding ceremony arch that was covered in soft champagne dupioni fabric and draped silver dollar eucalyptus garland that we made from each side.

Tara and Adam's nieces each wore a white tulle flower girl dress with a red sash while their ring bearer matched the groomsmen in a pint-sized tux.

A garland made out of Italian ruscus, silver dollar eucalyptus and bay leaves ran the length of the long head table, along with scattered garden roses, votives and hurricane lanterns. Wooden "Mr." and "Mrs." signs set it apart from the surrounding tables.
