One Couple's Romantic-Meets-Rustic Pink-and-White Wedding at Greengate Ranch and Vineyard in San Luis Obispo, California

Juxtaposition within design often produces beautiful results and that was certainly the case for this couple—romance meets rustic was the aesthetic of the moment for Kayla and Cody’s wedding at Greengate Ranch and Vineyard in San Luis Obispo, California. The couple leaned into a whimsical color palette of cream, blush and mauve for their barn wedding. "For our wedding, we wanted a rustic setting but also wanted it to be very dreamy and whimsical," explains Kayla. "I really wanted to get married inside a barn, and once we traveled to visit Greengate we knew it was perfect. Pink is my favorite color, but Cody doesn’t like pink. So for our color palette, I picked light colors—white, ivory, blush, and mauve." Kayla goes on to share that originality was especially paramount for her and Cody. "I told our event planners I wanted to be different than everyone else and they definitely delivered on that. I told them if it had been done I didn’t want it."

The couple utilized their wedding invitations to introduce their wedding vision to attendees. The boxed suite included pink suede and a curvilinear design that was mirrored through much of the rest of the celebration’s signage and stationery.

When the wedding day arrived, the couple kept things more muted and minimal for their ceremony with all-white draping. "Our ceremony took place inside the barn, and from the outside it looked very rustic…but inside was gorgeous," recalls Kayla. "We decided to drape white fabric to cover everything inside. The roof had lights with chandeliers that held flowers and vines. The chairs were all white and flowers lined the aisle way."

As the day progressed through cocktail hour and the wedding reception, they layered in more color to the decor. Both the escort card display and the bar menu mirrored the wedding invitation design’s modern curves while the velvet table linens complemented the soft textures first seen in the invitation suite. "Our reception was in front of the barn and our cocktail hour was adjacent to the barn. We had beautiful lounge areas and some casino tables out during cocktail hour," says Kayla. "For the reception, we did long modern farm-style tables with gold-accented ivory chairs. Our menus were made to match our invitations, and we had flowers lined down the center of the tables. It was all just really beautiful!"

In addition to honing in on a rustic-yet-romantic vibe, it was also paramount to Kayla and Cody that the day honor their family and their heritage. "I am Native American and we like to include a bit of my culture into all our big life events when we can," says Kayla. "We incorporated a large teepee photo booth that had our names in neon lights on the front. It was super cool and cute. Cody really was a good sport about all of my wedding decor choices, and actually loved it when he saw it all together." Kayla goes on to share that "one of the most special moments about our wedding was that we had three chairs saved in our front row for our grandparents who had passed away. Our grandparents were all very important people in our lives and we wanted to make sure we included them in our wedding day. Additionally, Cody’s older son, Korbin, was a groomsman and he walked down the aisle with Cody to stand next to him up at the alter. While our son together, Beaux, was the ring bearer and he took his job so seriously. He walked down the aisle all by himself (which isn't easy at 3 years old) and handed the rings off then proceeded to stand up there by me for the remainder of the ceremony. He definitely stole the show."
