Romantic Modern Industrial Miracle Wedding
Anna Carter (22 and a teacher) and Samuel Akers (24 and a staff member at a campus ministry) were planning a June wedding when they found out that Samuel had cancer. Luckily, their venue, The Delaware, had a date available in April. So they moved the celebration up two months, kept things simple, and asked friends and family for help. Instead of serving a meal, the couple put out a variety of desserts, each baked by someone important in their lives. The icing on the cake? Samuel is now cancer free.
Family members built the ceremony cross and decorated it with silk flowers. Anna’s mom made her bouquet of anemones, veronica, ranunculus, blue thistle, bear grass and eucalyptus. Anna’s bridesmaids wore long dresses of their choice and carried silk blooms.
The Delaware is a 1920s auto shop in historic Independence Square. “It is such a beautiful, simple space full of natural light,” Samuel says. The newlyweds cut into a carrot cake baked by Anna’s mom. Other sweets on offer included raspberry pie, Irish cream cheesecake, blueberry-lemon bundt cake, flourless chocolate cake and gingerbread. Anna’s little brother got down in a T-Rex costume.
