Rachel & Michael in Dearborn, MI
While she was engaged to Michael Allen, Rachel Helene Jacobs liked to tell her friends in New York that she was getting married on the grounds of a Ford plant. It got a good laugh, and it was partly true too, points out Rachel, who is a native of the Detroit area. THE BRIDE Rachel Helene Jacobs THE GROOM Michael Allen THE DATE September 2 In reality, the couple was to be married at the Dearborn Inn, built by Henry Ford to house his guests and visiting executives. In addition to the inn and its lovely grounds, the sometimes-quirky Henry Ford built a series of little cottages designed to resemble the homes of famous people -- Michael and Rachel spent their wedding night in the Poe House. The two were set up by a mutual acquaintance and were engaged two years later while visiting Muir Woods near San Francisco. As the couple sat surrounded by giant redwood trees, Michael presented Rachel not only with a ring, but also with a children's book called Little Miss Sunshine. He said that I was his sunshine, says Rachel, and I bawled.
