Poinsettias Filled This Snowy Winter Wedding at Castle Farms in Charlevoix, Michigan
Gianna and Karl came all the way from Halmstad, Sweden, to create a winter wonderland of their very own in Charlevoix. After debating locations, the pair settled on the small northern Michigan town because Gianna visited her grandparents there to ski each winter. The snowy, picturesque landscape set the scene for the day’s bright, festive décor, which included garlands of pine, old-world antiques, and lots of warm capes and velvet. The couple also brought a sentimental piece of their now-home with them: They toasted their union with snaps, a Swedish version of schnapps, and sang their favorite celebratory Swedish songs with guests. Gianna’s custom silk wool dress was made by a friend for the special day. For the ceremony, Gianna wore what she calls a “church cape,” a high-neck design made of silk wool and long, flowing panels. At the reception, Gianna threw on a sheer “baby cape,” she says. “It was hand embellished with floral elements.” The bridesmaids’ colorful long-sleeve velvet dresses inspired the day’s rich color palette, which included lush greens. The couple foraged evergreens from their family’s property for the garland table runners to further play into the theme. Guests indulged in a myriad of desserts, including “Gianna’s cake,” a signature chocolate anisette sponge cake filled with mixed berry and rosemary jam and topped with dark chocolate ganache.
