One Couple's Beach Wedding at Sunset Key Resort in the Florida Keys Packed With Pops of Fuchsia
Ever since Alyssa and Barney met five years ago on a backpacking trip in Brazil, the globetrotting duo has “traveled the ends of the earth to be together,” Alyssa says. With guests coming from all over the world to witness their “I dos,” Alyssa and Barney chose the Sunset Key Cottages, where the bride has been vacationing since childhood. Inspired by the property’s gardens, “my vision was to have that bougainvillea color and feel flow throughout the entire wedding, starting with a bougainvillea invitation suite to a bougainvillea-filled reception,” Alyssa says. During the ceremony, the bride carried a ranunculus and orchid bouquet, inspired by the cascading shape of bougainvillea, which is too temperamental to stand the heat. The couple gave each guest a piece of sea glass, asking them to “hold it tight and ‘fill’ it with prayers and well-wishes” at the ceremony. The pieces are now displayed in the couple’s home. The couple danced to Adele’s “Make You Feel My Love.” “There isn’t anything we wouldn’t do to be together, and that song fit perfectly,” Alyssa says. To incorporate their love of travel, Alyssa and Barney gifted guests luggage tags and named the tables after a different city they had lived in or visited. “There was a photo of us at each table with a little write-up sharing our favorite memory there,” Alyssa says.
