One Couple's Adventurous Helicopter Elopement in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

Early on during her engagement to Oscar, Teresa spoke with her mother about what she remembered most from her wedding. Her mother said that "the only memories I have are of how stressed out I was." Hearing that, Oscar and Teresa made the decision to elope. When it came to finding the location, Hawaii was a simple choice since that's where Oscar proposed to Teresa.

For their elopement in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, Oscar booked a private helicopter charter to transport them to a remote waterfall off the coast of the Big Island that could only be accessed by plane or boat. The helicopter ride to their elopement destination was one of the most memorable parts of the day for Oscar and Teresa. They share that "when the helicopter landed and you see the 200ft waterfall—that was the most magical moment for us."

As a whole, the couple let nature inspire their entire elopement. "We knew from the beginning that we wanted to do something that connected us deeply and being out in nature always did that for us. Our initial idea was to have a ceremony at the beach but after finding Jamie, our adventure elopement photographer, we preferred the idea of making it an adventure. We thought about hiking to a waterfall but we found out the best-secluded waterfall can only be accessed through a helicopter. From there our adventure elopement wedding took form. We loved the idea of a traditional Hawaiian ceremony and our officiant Michaela provided exactly that. It was beautiful having the leis, the sound of the conch, the flute, and the binding of our hand with a maile lei. After our ceremony, we had dinner at Brown's Beach house where they place a table at the edge of the beach and we watch the sunset while we had our meal." 

Looking back on the day, the couple emphasizes the importance of remembering that "your wedding starts in the planning stages, have fun planning, make it enjoyable, drink plenty of wine, and when your big day arrives forget about everything so that you can be there for one another."
