Modern Tropical Chinese Wedding in South Carolina
“Our wedding was really about the union of our lives, families and friends,” Tammy Wong (32 and a physician assistant) says of her marriage to Michael (Mike) Wei (32 and a real estate entrepreneur). With guests coming from as far away as Hong Kong, the couple focused on making everyone feel appreciated and comfortable. They gave out personalized welcome bags that Tammy hand- painted, honored family members during a Chinese tea ceremony and served gourmet Southern fare at the reception. “One guest said the wedding felt like it was as much about the guests as it was about us,” Tammy says.
Tammy wore a red Chinese qipao for the afternoon tea ceremony, then changed into a strapless white gown for the Western vows.
Roses, protea, anthurium, monstera and pampas grass formed the circular ceremony backdrop.
Tammy and Mike brought a modern tropical vibe to the Federal-style manor with palms, woven baskets, peacock chairs and gold vases. A vintage Piaggio Ape served up mint stracciatella and salted caramel gelato. A mix of beverages, including iced tea, flavored water and prosecco kept guests cool in the 85-degree heat.
