As a jewelry designer, Elaine has deep ties to Charlottesville’s vibrant creative community, which was useful when planning her wedding to Brad. “The theme was handmade luxury,” Elaine says. “It was important to me to include my favorite businesses and let them do what they do best.” At a working farm with mountain views, the couple exchanged vows in front of a modern metal arch, built by a friend, then partied late into the night as a neighbor spun vinyl. Elaine paired a blush skirt with a custom silk top and a gold necklace from her jewelry studio. A canopy of roses, cosmos and pokeweed covered the head table, and mismatched furniture filled two garden lounge areas. The couple took lessons to prepare for their first dance to “Harvest Moon” by Neil Young. “I’m glad we did because it looked great,” Elaine says. “I’m a little awkward in front of a crowd.” The couple met at Elaine’s mother’s Thai restaurant in Charlottesville. Naturally, they served an Asian-inspired meal of summer rolls, sesame noodles and kimchi-crab pancakes. After dinner, guests sampled a variety of bourbons and scotch at a whiskey bar. The champagne cake with buttercream frosting sat on a handmade ceramic cake stand.
