A Modern Brooklyn Wedding With Shades of Blush Pink at the Wythe Hotel

Like most modern romances, Kathryn and Anthony met on an app. The two took their chats offline and met up for drinks at the Frying Pan, a New York City bar and grill, where they spoke about their recent trips to Croatia. They hit it off and soon became a couple, waiting for the chance to take a trip to Antelope Canyon in Arizona. This destination was a dream spot for Kathryn, which was put on hold in 2020. But when they finally made the journey, Anthony had a special surprise waiting for her. In his effort to propose, however, he dropped the ring and needed assistance from a tour group to find it. Kathryn stumbled upon this search, and once the ring was found, Anthony “proposed on the spot,” she says, making the trip even more meaningful and memorable.

Having met under such “modern” circumstances, this theme carried through into their wedding day. Kathryn opted for a classic and timeless look for her wedding dress, an off-the-shoulder column gown of stretch crepe, complete with buttons to the hem. Anthony’s look was also classic with a modern spin: a black tuxedo, matching bow tie and a pink boutonniere. The pink hues continued in the bridal bouquet – a mix of garden roses, orchids and anthurium in a blush color, hand-tied with pink ribbons. She says, “We did blush pink flowers because we wanted a little pop of color but nothing too overwhelming to brighten the day and add a unique touch.”

One specific reason this couple chose a classic monochrome palette with pops of pink was because of the venue, the Wythe Hotel in New York City. With its industrial feel, Kathryn and Anthony felt that its beauty needed little else, but natural flowers and greenery would elevate this intimate space for an “enchanted” touch. Kathryn says, “We wanted a wedding venue that felt true to us and represent[ed] who we were. A NYC setting with intimate chic vibes is what we were looking for.”

The Wythe was perfect for just that, where the two could blend their Jewish and Catholic traditions in one space, like a pink floral chuppah. She adds, “It was a stunning structure of seasonal branches & greenery decorated with peonies, garden roses, lisianthus, stock and lace flowers.” With the help of their vendors, the added touch of greenery brought their vision to life and crafted a “more intimate and romantic feel” for this unique space.

Their ceremony under the chuppah was one of their most anticipated parts of the day, as it encompassed their whole design aesthetic and helped kick off the festivities, but they also loved getting to see how all of the different components they’d been planning finally came together. When they saw each other under the chuppah, surrounded by their loved ones, the feelings finally seemed to sink in for the couple. “Seeing the whole gathering of both families and friends in one spot, [it] really [was] the only time we’ll ever have all these people that we care about [who] care about us in one spot… We wanted everyone to have an amazing time,” Kathryn says.

Their reception space at the Wythe continued this modern, pink theme. Their team of vendors added “low arrangements featuring peonies, garden roses, lisianthus, ranunculus, sweet peas and seasonal greenery” in many shades of pink on the long tables and bar, low enough for guests to mingle throughout dinner. The greenery also hung from the ceiling to create an outdoor effect inside this industrial hotel space. They accented these floral arrangements with table runners and gold and white tapered candles to give the venue a natural glow.

The reception also had a DJ/band hybrid to keep the party going and ensure the guests had an amazing time. Kathryn says, “We also worked very closely with the band to help execute how we envisioned the day and how we wanted to blend both our traditions and the vibe we wanted for the evening.” This blend of both Jewish and Catholic customs was a priority for their day, and they focused on finding ways throughout the day to honor their cultures.

Both Kathryn and Anthony spent the majority of their night on the dance floor, spending time with their guests, who made the day even more special for them. And as for any wedding planning advice they have for couples? Kathryn says, “For the wedding day, try to relax about every little detail; no one else knows how the day is supposed to go, and you remember the deviations fondly. For marriage, everything is about partnership and figuring out life together.”
