Being a wedding venue director, Ashlyn Ohlendorf (22) knew exactly what she wanted—and did not want—for her wedding to Mason Gibbons (23 and a middle school physical education teacher). “I wanted something different and a bit more minimal,” Ashlyn says. “I don’t like being looked at or getting too much attention.” With that in mind, the pair picked greenery over flowers, kept the color palette neutral and streamed basketball games instead of dancing in honor of Ashlyn’s late dad’s love of the game. “March Madness was bigger than Christmas for him, so it was a way to feel his spirit,” she says.
Ashlyn didn’t just pick a black hat and leather jacket for style—she also wanted comfort. “I actually wore the wide-brim hat and jacket because they helped me feel a bit more secure with everyone looking at me,” Ashlyn says. For dessert, Ashlyn and Mason cut into a cheese wheel cake. “Though I’m not a big foodie, I am a huge fan of all cheeses,” she says. For those guests looking to satisfy their sweet tooth, the pair also served cookies, macarons and cupcakes.
