Mid-Century Modern Design Blended with Industrial Vibes at This Wedding in Houston, Texas

Though Lynsey Jones (30 and a graphic designer) has photographed many Houston weddings over the years, for her own celebration, she and Ryan Owens (30 and a mechanical engineer) wanted an undiscovered venue. They found that and more at Hughes Manor. “We loved the mix of mid-century modern and industrial vibes,” Lynsey says. “We pulled in copper, wood and darker colors, then layered on vibrant florals to mix masculine and feminine styles.” For example, copper mugs hung on a wood board doubled as escort cards and favors, and the container for their signature drink: a Moscow mule. The invites were printed on bright white cardstock using navy and teal inks and geometric patterns. “The typography is very simple and structural, and helped set the tone for the industrial-style décor at the reception,” Lynsey says. For the ceremony, Lynsey and Ryan exchanged vows at an altar made from hanging geometric garlands tied off with navy and merlot ribbon. During the ceremony, they planted a bonsai tree using dirt from their parents’ gardens.  Meanwhile, the pair recessed just as blue and green smoke bombs went off behind them. “I wanted to make sure everything felt like us—fun, unique, modern and colorful,” Lynsey says. At the reception, table numbers were fashioned from matte black tiles and copper vinyl. For dessert, the meal ended with a carrot cake and a semi-naked vanilla cake with strawberry and buttercream filling topped with fresh ranunculus, kermit mums and succulents.
