Doug and Megan grew up together and attended the same church, but they were never close friends. As high school came to a close, they found themselves without dates for the winter formal, so Doug decided to take a chance and ask Megan to be his date. The two clicked at the dance and then had their first “real” date at a local cafe, whereupon the two became inseparable. The Bride Megan Sowers, 22, speech therapist The Groom Doug Pierce, 22, accountant The Date June 22 Three years later, as the two were walking along a path near the edge of Hume Lake, Megan spotted rose petals on the forest floor leading to a group of Hershey’s Kisses spelling out the words, “I love you.” As she followed the trail of rose petals, she came upon a second display of chocolates that spelled, “Will you marry me?” Soon plans were underway for a wedding in the couple’s hometown with an elegant brown and yellow color palette and a tree motif to be carried throughout all the wedding day details.

A 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air transported the couple from the church to the reception.
To set the theme, Megan and Doug sent out yellow and brown invitations with a tree motif featuring a picture of the two of them and all the details for their guests. They carried the same color scheme throughout the wedding day.
The seven bridesmaids wore dark-brown, cotton dresses with spaghetti straps and V-necklines. The dresses were accented with a large sash at the Empire waist, which tied into a bow at the back. They carried bouquets of September flowers with craspedia.
Megan and Doug said their “I dos” in a simple church ceremony.
The Couple
Megan carried a bouquet of cream mini gerbera daisies, champagne roses, and brown coffee berries.
Vintage glass vases held assorted yellow and white flowers.
Doug wore a tan, cotton suit with a white dress shirt and brown tie. Each of six groomsmen wore khaki pants, brown paisley ties, and white dress shirts monogrammed with their initials. They donned boutonnieres of white freesias, craspedia, and coffee berries.
In the foyer of the church, an easel featured a print of the couple’s tree design and displayed their names and wedding date printed in brown and yellow.
