The wedding of thespians Margaret Chmiel-Nichols and Alexander Alioto was like a Broadway show with several encores; every time the curtain came close to closing on that spectacular night, the crowd clamored for more. THE BRIDE Margaret Chmiel-Nichols, 25 THE GROOM Alexander Alioto, 26 THE DATE October 15 In fact, after a six-hour reception, all 150 guests headed to the 5,000-square-foot Presidential Suite at The Plaza, where they opened up cases of wine and gathered around the grand piano as the couple's theater friends sang. At 2 a.m., Alex's dad ordered breakfast, and 10 waiters arrived, carrying platters of scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage and muffins. An hour and a half later, when the newlyweds retired, the backstage party was still going strong. Margaret, a Chicago native, and Alex, a San Franciscan, were theater majors who met at a college sports bar in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Three years later, Alex proposed on the rooftop of Margaret's New York City apartment building. They celebrated with champagne and watched the sun set.
