A mariachi band and a menu inspired by English, German, and Mexican flavors came together to create an intercultural wedding to remember. The Bride Lucy Koch, 27, marathon event manager The Groom Robert Diaz, 35, industrial accounts manager The Date August 20 Lucy Koch and Robert Diaz found each other through their shared love of running and athletics. Lucy was working at an expo promoting marathons when a mutual friend introduced her to Robert. After a few run-ins, the couple had their first official date. I had actually challenged Robert to a race, a local St. Patrick’s Day 10K, and we won’t say who won, says Lucy. After two years of dating, and in-between back-to-back business trips, Robert planned a fabulous dinner date followed by a romantic walk along San Diego Harbor to enjoy the warm September evening. When they came upon a secluded bench overlooking the water with the lights of Mexico twinkling in the background, Robert suggested they stop to enjoy the view. Before Lucy knew it, Robert was kneeling before her with a ring in his hand, asking in anticipation, Lucy, will you marry me? A little less than a year later the two celebrated their love and their heritage in a beautiful August wedding.
