Colorado natives Leigh and Keenan met a few years back when both attended a charity function in Denver. Keenan asked Leigh to dance, and that dance led to a dinner date the very next day. It must have been love at first sight because, Leigh says, “we’ve been together ever since.” The Bride Leigh Vevurka, 28, works for a nonprofit The Groom Keenan Gates, 33, business analyst The Date September 4 Six months later, the two moved together from Colorado to Washington, DC, which is where Keenan proposed. The couple was just finishing up a low-key Saturday, running a few errands around town, when Keenan suggested a stop by the FDR Memorial, a spot they hadn’t been to before. They walked through the memorial, then over toward the Tidal Basin beside the Jefferson Memorial and near the Washington Monument. The next thing Leigh knew, Keenan had dropped to one knee and was asking her to marry him. “I started crying immediately and didn’t realize that I hadn’t answered him until he asked me again!” Leigh remembers. Of course, she quickly came to her senses and said “yes.” The couple wed the following year back in their home state.
