Lara and Mike first met on a kayaking trip, but it was during Lara’s training for a triathlon that the endorphins really let loose. Mike, an ex-Ironman competitor, acted as Lara’s unofficial trainer, tuning her bike, giving her tips, and cheering her on from the sidelines. Lara looked radiant in her ivory silk duchesse satin “Malia” gown, with bodice beading and a hemline of pleated silk organdy. The beautiful, floor-length veil Lara wore was her “something borrowed.” Her sister-in-law wore it in her wedding to Lara’s brother.
The Couple
Mike and Lara ran out of Smith Tower and spontaneously jumped in a bicycle pedicab. Passersby cheered them on as they rode along the waterfront with their photographers capturing the unexpected action shots.
Lara and Mike's ceremony, held at the Chinese Room at Smith Tower, boasted a birds-eye view of the “Emerald City” from the wraparound balcony. “It was one of those picture perfect, clear, blue sky, fall days,” the bride remembers.
The bridesmaid bouquets contained mini calla lilies with shades of red and purple. Lara's mother put them together with flowers she bought in Seattle.
The First Dance
Lara’s four sisters and sisters-in-law were her bridesmaids. Lara asked them to wear any style dress they wanted, as long as it was in black. “We wanted everyone to be comfortable,” Lara says, “and not have to make room in their closets for another bridesmaid dress.”
