A Rustic Outdoor Wedding at The Hayloft in Rockwood, Pennsylvania

Rachael Landes (25 and a reading teacher) and Daniel Leatherman (25 and a physical education teacher) have known each other since the 6th grade, but did not begin dating until the year after graduating high school. When Rachael accepted a long-term substitute teaching position in a remote Alaskan village, the couple did not let distance come between them and sent each other photos and videos for comfort during their time apart. Upon Rachael’s return home, Daniel was waiting at the airport with a sign that read “Will You Marry Me?” Their wedding was held at The Hayloft in Rockwood, Pennsylvania. The pond provided a serene backdrop for the outdoor ceremony. Rachael wore a Maggie Sottero dress with intricate lace and Swarovski crystal embellishments, and Daniel wore a gray tuxedo. The bride and groom both wore their cowboy boots for comfort and confidence. The bride incorporated her favorite color, green, into the wedding palette by mixing it with chartreuse, white and robin’s egg blue. Rachael also looked for ways to incorporate small bird details into her special day, because birds remind her of her beloved maternal grandmother and her favorite line from The Notebook: “If you’re a bird, I’m a bird.” “The rustic details of the property and the beautiful landscape provided the perfect setting for us to celebrate our love for each other with our friends and family,” says Rachael.
