One Couple's Simple Lake Michigan Wedding at Camp Blodgett in West Olive, Michigan
Much of Carly and John's journey has unfolded on Lake Michigan, including John’s proposal. “As we were looking for turtles, John yelled that he’d found one,” Carly says. “He was on one knee with the sweetest turtle ring box.” It was only fitting for the couple’s wedding to take place lakeside (no chairs or aisle necessary), and to complete the vintage-inspired invites with old-school illustrations of beachgoers and ocean scenes—turtles included.
After the ceremony, Carly traded her gown for a party-ready sequined dress and her favorite pair of comfy Converse. “I needed something comfortable to dance in,” she says. A friend set up a cheese spread for the couple’s cocktail hour, which the newlyweds followed with a casual dinner of veggies, brats and grilled chicken. Partygoers sipped mai tais, wine and a few of Carly and John’s fave beers, including PBR.
