Friendships have a funny way of becoming something more serious, and no one knows that better than Kimberly Klett and Justin Schmidt. A sudden separation made them realize they could not longer be apart. THE BRIDE Kimberly Klett, 27, a teacher THE GROOM Justin Schmidt, 27, a financial analyst THE DATE July 13 The pair first met through mutual buddies while they were living in Santa Barbara. But it wasn't until Kim picked up and moved to attend Western Michigan University that Justin realized what was really missing. When Kim came back for a visit nine months later, a romance was born. Then on a birthday trip to La Jolla, Justin filled the hotel room with candles and proposed to his best friend. The two were wed 13 months later.

Centerpieces consisted of tinted brown wood boxes and square tin containers (with a gorgeous patina) filled with fruits and flowers, while Tuscan-inspired urns were placed around the room. Food stations held glass cylinders filled with similar fruits, along with pomegranates and pears. As a final touch of drama, the trees in the backyard were dressed with large glass lanterns and candles, and stake lanterns trimmed the perimeter of property. Mother Nature was kind, as well -- the warm summer night was perfect for guests to enjoy dancing on the patio or drinking at the outdoor bar.
The couple wanted a homey, comforting atmosphere for the whole day, so a decision was made to host the reception at the Kim's parents' home in Newport Beach. The reception decor transported guests on a make-believe trip to Tuscany: rich, romantic colors of golden yellow, buttercream, copper, terra cotta coral, and shades of green were used to set the mood. Natural accents such as berries, ladies apples, grapes, artichokes, and hypericum berries also added to the Italian countryside ambience.
Kimberly carried a hand-tied bouquet with green hydrangea, white English garden roses, white stock, and white freesia.
