Katie and Eric both grew up in the South, but they met in New York City when friends introduced them at a barbecue in Union Square. Before they knew it, they were engaged and planning a traditional wedding in the church where Katie grew up. The affair was designed around a monochromatic blue color scheme with pink accents. He planned the engagement around the couple's Christmas visit to Katie's parents’ house. Eric was on his way there when he got Katie's frantic call saying she’d been bumped from her flight and wouldn't make it home until the 26th. So Eric knew that not only would she miss Christmas, but his surprise proposal in front of friends and family would have to be delayed as well. Luckily, the airline succumbed to Katie's tears and she made it to Saint Francisville on time. The next morning, her father woke her up early and asked for help with gifts. Half asleep, Katie walked into the family kitchen where coffee was brewing, Christmas music was playing, and a nervous Eric was on one knee. He definitely pulled off the surprise! says Katie.
