Katie Anderson and Anthony Miller met when he joined the company where Katie was already working. “We had a chance to get to know each other and went out for drinks or dinner every so often after work,” Katie remembers. Two years later, Anthony switched to the Pacific Time zone -- he was transferred out to southern California. Katie planned to move out that summer, and when he came back to Kentucky for a visit, he asked her to marry him. The Bride Katie Anderson, 26, campaign manager for a cancer charity The Groom Anthony Miller, 29, sales manager The Date September 8 The Kentucky natives knew they wanted to wed in their home state (her family’s in Louisville, his is in Owensboro), so Katie got planning right away. The couple wed in the bride’s childhood church, and for the reception chose a modern, loft-style space at a downtown museum. Once those details were in place, she tackled the rest of the planning by way of the Internet and a few cross-country trips. Says Katie, “I had a clear picture of what I wanted: a modern wedding with simple, clean lines -- and a great party!”

Katie and Anthony celebrated their marriage with a reception at a loft on the top floor of the museum. The windows were lit with rows of square votives, and lime green and ivory paper lanterns hung above the dance floor. Centerpieces of varying height and width sat in trios on each table -- the square vases were filled with all white arrangements that included roses, stock, and hydrangea as well as other blooms.
At each seat, guests found a menu and a sprig of rosemary. “With over 300 people, we really had to feed the masses!” Katie says. She and Anthony didn’t want a typical menu and instead opted for fun, crowd-pleasing fare -- buffet stations of pizza, burgers, salad, and potatoes (baby red roasted potatoes, homemade chips, and a mashed potato bar).
The wedding party and other friends of the couple sat at a trio of long, rectangular tables that were set with vases filled with bamboo stalks. “I was going for clean, simple lines,” Katie says. Lime greens and chocolate brown hues were used throughout the reception space.
The Ceremony
After enjoying a cocktail hour on the roof of the museum, guests picked up escort cards on their way in to the reception downstairs.
