During a getaway to the Piedmont region of Northern Italy, Chase proposed using a picture of Katharine’s engagement ring that was taped to her class ring. Not only had Chase called Katharine’s father to ask for his daughter’s hand in marriage, but he also asked him to bring the ring (which Chase had purchased in New York) with him next time he crossed the Atlantic. Her parents arrived to celebrate, ring in hand, just a few days later.
