Julie and Chad planned a weekend wedding that thrilled both young and old: hayrides, a petting zoo, armadillo races, a live country western concert, and line dancing were just a few of the Texas-style activities guests encountered. THE BRIDE Julie Spellman THE GROOM Chad Sweet THE DATE October 3 When Julie first met Chad, both were convinced a relationship would never work. They had clicked instantly and had plenty in common (both had been living in Asia on and off for years -- they met at the wedding of a mutual friend in Singapore), but Julie, 37, a partner in a law firm, had just moved back to Hong Kong, and Chad, 35, a vice president and financial adviser at an investment bank, had recently returned to Texas. In spite of their different paths, the bride explains, their shared passions and experiences made them decide that a relationship was worth exploring. About two years after they met, nearly 250 friends and family members joined them for their wedding in another far-flung destination: San Antonio.

Everyone at Julie and Chad's reception raved about the wedding cake, a chocolate cake with chocolate fudge filling and whipped icing, that was served alongside bananas foster and a chocolate fountain for dessert.
The Ceremony
Julie and Chad introduced everyone to the best of Texas with an event that included armadillo races; an exhibition of bull riding, team roping, calf roping, and trick roping; a live concert from a country-and-western band, plus a line-dancing instructor; hayrides; and a petting zoo for the kids. Guests who felt inclined to get in on the action could even try their luck on a mechanical bull.

Julie wore an organza strapless A-line gown with duchesse bias trim at top of bodice and hem by Vera Wang.

Julie and Chad kicked off their wedding at River Walk, where they sailed down the river to the Southwest School of Art & Craft.
The Reception Decor
Following the traditional ceremony, everyone proceeded through a gate to a garden blazing with color. Tall oak trees surrounded the dinner tables, which were topped with orange linens and flowers in lime green, fuchsia, and orange.
