Theater buffs Jessica (Jessi) Slater and Cesar Carrasco met while rehearsing an Off Off Broadway play. Two years later, another dramatic scene unfolded when Cesar asked Jessi to look at an engagement ring, which she did though a torrent of tears. They married in Brooklyn on a rooftop overlooking the Manhattan skyline.

Photographer Wendy G. Johnson, chosen for her candid, documentary style, took advantage of a nearby graffiti mural to shoot truly urban photos.
Jessi found her strapless organza gown on her very first shopping excursion, to David's Bridal. The gown had three satin bands at the waist and a satin-edged apron back. Her mother made the soft organza veil with satin trim.
Jessi's mother had spent many years as a pastry chef, so she made three-layer square chocolate cake with off-white rolled fondant icing. It was decorated with peach-colored lilies and purple lisianthus.
Set against a backdrop of the Manhattan skyline, Jessi and Cesar said I do on a Brooklyn rooftop at sunset.
