Jennifer & Frank: A Formal Wedding in Boston, MA

Guests riding alongside bride Jennifer Vargish on the day of her autumn wedding were greeted unexpectedly by a small monarch butterfly -- an occurrence they assured her was a symbol of good luck. It flew into the trolley and rode with the crowd to an event planned around an exotic Asian theme. THE BRIDE Jennifer Vargish, 30, kitchen and interior designer THE GROOM Frank Rand, 47, physician THE DATE October 14 Jennifer was working in Manhattan when she met Frank Rand, a physician from Boston. When a last-minute opportunity arose to see Madame Butterfly, she scrambled at 6:00 p.m. to find a date for the 8:00 p.m. show, and found a male friend who couldn't get to the opera until the second act. During the show, Frank spotted Jennifer and kept one eye fixed on her. At intermission, there was no sign of my date, and the most handsome guy came up to me and asked if the seat next to mine was taken. I told him he could join me, but that he might have to move if my date showed up. The lights go out and I heard someone call my name. It was my date! exclaims Jennifer. What miserable timing. When Frank got up to return to his seat, I thought, 'There goes the man of my dreams.' Much to her surprise, Frank lingered in the lobby when the show was over in order to see Jennifer another time. He snuck up behind me and handed me his name and number written on a torn-off corner of the program, she remembers. I called him and he flew me up to Boston for our first date. When Frank proposed, it was on the balcony at the Metropolitan Opera, where the couple first met.
