Karen and Evan, "knew we wanted to host a wedding that felt intimate and warm, and reflected our combined spirit. We’ve taken many day hikes in the Hudson Valley and Catskills, fell in love with the rolling hills and greenscape, and knew we wanted to get married in the area. At first visit to the BARN at Liberty Farms we knew we had found our ideal venue. Once we decided on a barn wedding, we really wanted to highlight the beautiful space with its rustic wooden and iron-wrought details, to set the stage for a casual, intimate-feeling spring wedding. The wedding colors were meant to feel natural and spring-like: sage green (lots of greenery) and ivory with blush pink accents."

To bring their wedding at The Barn at Liberty Farms in Ghent, New York, to life, the couple DIYed many of their wedding details. The twosome DIYed, "mason jar lanterns, ceremony sign, various signage for the flower petal confetti, guest globe, s’mores bar, menu, banners with table assignments. I designed our rather simple logo with our chinchillas on it, and made stickers to place on each maple syrup bottle. I also printed the place cards and we both spent a whole night tying them with twine to the bottles. The customized cake topper and globe were amazing mementos we now have on display at home. Not something I personalized, per se, but I dream of having my own farm someday, so I’d really wanted to hang out with some of the farm animals on our wedding day. During our photo session a couple of cows came to see what was going on and let us pet them, so that was a highlight. Jetta the Jersey cow even tried to eat my bouquet. Katie, our amazing photographer, captured some great candids from the cow encounter."

Keeping the theme of unique and customized décor going, the couple got especially creative with their wedding cake. "Our cake topper was custom made from an Etsy shop as well: The Rosemary Toppers. My favorite movie growing up was Hayao Miyazaki’s “My Neighbor Totoro,” and I have a growing collection of various sized stuffed Totoros. The cake topper has us as two Totoros with a sage green bowtie and sage green flower with veil. The two smaller Totoros are our 2 pet chinchillas, whose names are also from the movie: Chibi and Toto. our cake was from Coccadotts: almond cake with mocha mousse filling and champagne buttercream."
