The Bride Jamie Flythe, 23, graduate student The Groom Donny Lassiter, 28, farmer The Date August 6 After Donny met Jamie through a mutual friend at a local seafood festival five years ago, he wasn’t sure her parents would allow him to take her out because of their age difference. Donny asked for my phone number later that night, says Jamie. There were instant sparks! Lucky for Donny, Jamie’s parents did allow him to take her on their first date, for pizza and live music. A few years later, after a friend’s wedding (the same friend who had introduced them!), the couple went to dinner at a fancy restaurant in Smithfield, Virginia. After they were finished eating, Donny insisted they walk around the dock beside the restaurant, despite the cold November air. It was here that he popped the question, and Jamie happily accepted. We rode the entire way home with the interior light on in the car, just so I could watch [the ring] sparkle! remembers Jamie. They were married exactly nine months later in a colorful summer wedding, with the ceremony held at Jamie’s childhood church.
