This Couple Chose an Artistic "Gucci Garden" Theme for Their Wedding at The Mazant in New Orleans
Matt and Monet initially met through friends, hanging around in the same groups before deciding to dip their toes into uncharted waters. Making the leap from friends to something more came easily for the pair, and soon, they made it official. In June of 2021, Matt scheduled a surprise trip for the two of them. For Monet, she was simply excited to go on a new adventure, but Matt had something else up his sleeve on their journey to Scottsdale. After arriving at a beautiful resort, he got down on one knee and popped the question.
For the couple, planning a wedding was all about providing a memorable experience for their loved ones, reminiscent of Matt and Monet’s favorite dating spot: a picnic in the park. They elevated the theme to be a bit fancier, with the future bride saying, “We incorporated juicy bright florals, fresh fruits, spritzes, pillows and even a lounge area. We told our guests to dress for the theme of 'Gucci Garden,' and they all really showed up.”
With Monet’s artistic background, a color palette in vibrant hues with splashes of DIY touches came to fruition in New Orleans’ lively Bywater neighborhood at The Mazant. With both her mother and sister artists as well, they brought the unique vision for this eclectic wedding day to life through wildflower floral displays, vintage accents and her mother’s glassware from Austin for “something borrowed.” The mother-of-the-bride also had decades of experience as a florist, and her keen eye for her daughter’s playful aesthetic meant the day wasn’t lacking in color. “It all worked out beautifully and it made it all the more memorable that my family contributed,” says Monet.
This spring wedding utilized many of their talents, with Monet stating that almost every part of the decor was DIY. A rental company, True Value, provided their chairs, tables and linens, but the rest was left up to the resourceful bride and her family. “It really made the space feel special,” Monet adds.
And The Mazant had the perfect blend of “modern romance and organic beauty,” says their planner at Spanish Oak Events. This one-of-a-kind space offered lush greenery to accent the beautiful displays from Monet’s mother and sister while being in a hip neighborhood with the artistic flair the bride craved. “Their spring celebration embraced rich, sun-drenched colors that felt both fresh and timeless—burnt orange, deep gold and soft pinks echoed nature’s bloom without the usual spring pastel palette,” their wedding planner adds.
Naturally, the wedding attire had to fit the vibes of the theme and space, so Monet opted for a strapless dress with a high slit to perfectly encapsulate the upscale feel while being more minimalistic. She paired this with a statement shoe and bouquet of wildflowers, wrapped together with a gauzy fabric similar to her husband-to-be’s suit. “I told Matthew to choose anything that was bright and fun, and he went with a green suit, which seemed absolutely perfect for a garden wedding,” she says, which he paired with a pink bow tie to coordinate with his boutonniere.
During the wedding day itself, their dear friends at The Rylands Photo Company captured portraits with their black-and-white cameras. Guests also had the chance to give Matt and Monet a glimpse of the reception through their eyes, with film cameras set around the space. One moment they loved having on camera was the ceremony. Monet says, “For both of us, delivering our vows was the most anxious and special moment. We both cried, and many friends told us they also teared up!”
For their reception, the newlyweds invited guests out onto the lawn, and seating was arranged around a vintage rug. “Tables set with textured milk glass, metal accents, citrus fruits and wildflowers—natural and organic—felt reminiscent of an artist’s still life. Multiple colorful cakes dotted the reception, adding to the playful, creative vibe,” says their wedding planner. Guests enjoyed Fernet and Spritz cocktails, with edible table runners including citrus fruits and colorful macarons.
The day after the wedding, the couple held a classic crawfish boil, a must in Louisiana, especially to combat those hangovers and post-wedding blues. As for Monet, she only has one regret from wedding planning, and that’s not making it a whole wedding week. “I would highly recommend booking a venue you can stay at for a weekend or longer! It really allows time and space for everyone to catch up and create memories,” she says. So, for any couples looking to spend more time with loved ones, the bride highly recommends asking friends and family to stay for the whole booking.
